Eden Public School is fortunate to be a part of the PSP program.

The Priority Schools Funding Program (PSP) is designed to assist school communities to improve the learning outcomes of students in schools with high concentrations of students from low socio-economic status backgrounds.

The PSP is jointly funded by the Commonwealth's Strategic Assistance for Improving Student Outcomes Program and the NSW Government. This support is in addition to the resources provided to all NSW government schools.

The broad goals that the program uses are from the National Goals for Schooling in the Twenty-first Century and the National Literacy and Numeracy Plan. These goals are:

• the learning outcomes of educationally disadvantaged students should improve, and over time, match those of other students

• when students leave school they should have attained the skills of Numeracy and English literacy so that every student is numerate, able to read, write, spell and communicate at an appropriate level

• every child will achieve a minimum acceptable literacy and numeracy standard within four years of commencing school

The PSP focuses on literacy, numeracy and participation. These are the most critical requirements for achievement across the full range of educational and training outcomes.

Priority Schools are required to focus on improving student's participation, literacy and numeracy outcomes through activities within these three inter-related action areas:

i) home, school and community partnerships;
ii) classroom and school organisation and school culture; and
iii) quality teaching and learning

The school has been part of the Priority Schools Program for many years. The program provides the school with approximately $35 000.00 of additional funding per year to support literacy, numeracy and community involvement.
